Common questions

How do I open the grown-ups area?

Tap the gear button at the top of the home screen and answer the parent gate question (a multiplication question written in words).

How do I restore my purchase?

In the grown-ups area, tap Unlock all words, then Restore Purchases. Make sure the device is signed in to the same Apple Account that bought the unlock.

Does the unlock work with Family Sharing?

Yes. If Family Sharing is on, Apple may share the unlock with your family. On a family member's device, use Restore Purchases if the unlock doesn't appear on its own.

How do I turn Say It (the microphone) on or off?

The grown-ups area shows the Say It (microphone) status. If it hasn't been set up yet, tap Allow the microphone now. To turn it on or off later, open the Settings app, find Word Wheel, and switch Microphone and Speech Recognition on or off. Speech is checked on the device and never recorded or sent anywhere. Say It is only offered on devices that can check speech on the device itself.

What if the microphone doesn't hear my child?

Try a quieter room, and have your child hold the device close and say the word clearly after tapping the microphone. Without the microphone, Word Wheel still works: your child reads the word, then picks its picture from three, and a right first pick earns the star just like reading it out loud.

My child isn't reading yet. Can they still play?

Yes. In the grown-ups area under Players, tap your child's name and turn on Listening mode: say each word when the wheel stops. It's set for each player, so an older sibling can keep reading. Each word is spoken and its picture shown right away, so pre-readers can listen and learn. Listening mode earns stickers but not stars.

How do I add, rename or reset a player?

In the grown-ups area under Players, tap Add a player, or tap a player to change their name and picture. To start a player over, tap their name and tap Reset progress (or swipe left on their name and tap Reset). This clears their stars and stickers; purchases aren't affected.

Where is progress saved?

Progress is saved on the device itself and is never sent anywhere, so there's no account to sign in to. Deleting the app deletes your child's progress, and progress doesn't move between devices.
